The Ying Wu College of Computing wants to ensure that you have a successful transition to your major; therefore, all students must demonstrate proficiency in the material covered in CS 100 Roadmap to Computing.
There are two ways to accomplish this:
Take CS 100 at NJIT or
Take the CS 100 Credit By Exam and score 80% or better. The exam is offered three times per year, at the end of the Fall/Spring/Summer semesters.
Exam Information
You may attempt the Credit by Exam only once. Students who have already enrolled in CS 100 in a prior semester are not eligible to take the exam, nor are those currently taking the class.
The exam will be offered in the Fall, Spring, and Summer semesters. The next offering of the CS 100 Credit by Exam will be in Spring 2024.
Date (tentative): Saturday, May 4, 2024
Time: 9:00 am – 11:30 am
Location: TBD
Registration Deadline: Monday, April 29, 2024
To register for this exam, please email Xiaoning Ding (xiaoning.ding@njit.edu). You will be sent a link for NJIT's Credit-by-Exam Request Form. A $50 exam fee will be charged to your account once your request is submitted and approved.
Exam Results and Receiving Credit
You will receive your exam grade immediately upon completing the exam. The exam coordinator will relay your results to the Registrar's Office, who will add the credit for CS 100 to your NJIT transcript. You will receive only degree credit (similar to a transfer class or AP credit), not a letter grade.
If you do not score at least 80%, you will not have an opportunity to retake the exam and will be required to take CS 100 at NJIT.
