Sahitya Allam, Goldwater Scholarship recipient, is now in medical school.
Thanks to a fruitful collaboration between Albert Dorman Honors College and the NJIT Student National Fellowships and Awards Committee, more and more NJIT students are receiving prestigious scholarships and fellowships.
The number of both applicants and recipients has grown, and the opportunities have become increasingly impressive. Indeed, thanks to a fruitful collaboration between Albert Dorman Honors College and the NJIT Student National Fellowships and Awards Committee, more and more NJIT students are receiving prestigious scholarships and fellowships, and reaping the benefits that come from life-changing and career-advancing educational experiences.
Each semester, NJIT invites scholarship and fellowship representatives to campus to present their programs to interested students. The university also holds information sessions to introduce students to the array of opportunities available to them, and provides essay-writing assistance and faculty advisers to facilitate the application process. All national fellowships and scholarships are merit-based, highly competitive awards that consider intellectual curiosity, personal drive, community engagement and global awareness as well.
“The process of applying for these awards is lengthy and requires a great deal of personal introspection on the part of the applicant,” noted Shivon Boodhoo, director of special programs, Albert Dorman Honors College. “The self-knowledge and motivation gained through this process can prove invaluable for future endeavors, and winning a national award confers a great deal of prestige and can open many doors.”

“I received a national fellowship through the Institute of International Education to pursue a master’s degree at the University of Auckland, New Zealand,” said Alison Schroeder, recipient of a Whitaker Fellowship. “While I am excited about the academic opportunities this experience provides me. I am equally excited about the opportunity to travel, meet new people and try new things! In the two months I have been in NZ, I have gone surfing, impulsively bought cross-country plane tickets, done my first overnight backpacking trip, walked on black sand beaches, visited the Hobbiton movie set, witnessed a Maori cultural performance, joined two futsal leagues and much more!”
Fulbright recipient David Anderson, who is enjoying study abroad as well, remarked, “The Fulbright Program in Germany has been such a great experience so far. Besides being a great aid to my career through the program at the Technical University of Munich and accompanying internships, the experience has allowed me to take advantage of living in the diverse culture of Germany... Through the Fulbright Program I have been able to further pursue my dreams of working in international risk management consulting and am looking forward to what the next six months will bring!”
