Connecting Students to the Real World: Ying Wu College of Computing Capstone Showcase Nov. 29
The Fall 2017 Ying Wu College of Computing (YWCC) Capstone Showcase will take place Wednesday, Nov. 29 in the Campus Center Atrium 3-6 p.m.
The showcase, which marks over 15 years of the YWCC Capstone Program and 13 years of the Real World Connections (RWC) program, will feature the work of 15 YWCC capstone teams and nine entrepreneurship teams made up of NJIT students, demonstrating their accomplishments working on projects for leading industry organizations like UPS, Manufacture NJ and the New Jersey judiciary system.
Additionally, as part of the RWC program – a STEM education platform that provides a special approach to teaching and learning by placing middle-and-high-school students in the driver’s seat of their own education – 75 students from multiple local school districts will present their mid-program project presentations, which includes Android app development, professional film making and web development.
“This event marks a milestone in our college history,” said Capstone Director and Senior University Lecturer Osama Eljabiri, who created the RWC program and received a 2017 New Jersey State Governor’s Jefferson Award for his tireless efforts to catalyze interest in STEM-related fields. “These interconnected programs have become key components in our college education and community outreach, offering students a fast career pipeline, a network of industry, government and community contacts and a hub for creativity, opportunities and endless possibilities.”
Executives and directors from The New Jersey Cybersecurity & Communications Integration Cell, Morris County Economic Development Corporation, Prudential, Verizon Communications and Amazon will judge the showcase. Winning students and teams will be recognized during an award ceremony at 5 p.m., immediately following the showcase.
