High school outreach

Why NJIT?

#2 Public University – The Wall Street Journal/College Pulse

#28 Nationally Top Public Colleges – Forbes

#1 of 15 Best Colleges for Computer/Information Systems in New Jersey – College Factual

One of our distinguished faculty members will visit your high school and give a 30-45 minute presentation about the following topic:

Our faculty members ask students “What do you want to be when you grow up?” We propose that knowing more about technology no matter what career decisions are made, will benefit you throughout life.

Our faculty will also provide students with an overview of careers in computing, beginning with the differences between computer science, information technology and information systems, and data science.

Presenter: Lori Watrous-deVersterre

Lori uses her own experience as a computing professional working her way through hi-tech startups and Fortune 500 companies. Through examples from her career, she attempts to show students that a career in technology can be exciting, fun, diversified, and has a direct impact on society, family, and friends.

Presenter: Jertishta Qerimaj

Jeri is a former NJIT student who comes back after many years in the industry. She uses this experience to enhance her teaching strategies and demonstrate to students that a career in computing technology is exciting, creative, and innovative. She is always eager to support, mentor, and inspire students throughout their academic years.

Presenter: Ryan Tolboom

Ryan has worked in information technology in the public and private sector from semiconductor startups to K-12 school districts. He is a University Lecturer at NJIT and works in the MIXR lab supporting augmented reality research and video game design. Ryan wants students to understand that gaming can lead to a rewarding career and that IT is at the core of all industries.
