Transfer credit policies vary depending on the department offering the equivalent course at NJIT.
Computer Science:
- A student is allowed to take an equivalent of a CS course outside NJIT only in rare situations. For example, when it is the last course required for graduation and it is not currently offered at NJIT.
- The only Community College courses allowed are those listed as equivalent in njtransfer.org
- Either the CS Associate Chair or the CS Chair has to approve the course equivalency before taking the course.
Data Science
- A student is allowed to take an equivalent of a DS course outside NJIT only in rare situations. For example, when it is the last course required for graduation and it is not currently offered at NJIT.
- Either the DS Associate Chair or the DS Chair has to approve the course equivalency before taking the course.
Information Systems:
- A student is allowed to take an equivalent of an IS course outside NJIT only if the course is not offered at NJIT during that semester
- Students are only permitted to take 100 and 200-level courses at another institution.
Credit For Courses Not Taken At NJIT
Planning to take courses elsewhere? Obtain permission FIRST from the relevant academic department and the Registrar's Office at NJIT before enrolling at another institution. Failure to do so will result in the transfer credits not being accepted at NJIT.
Key Steps:
- Review the UG Catalog and Check Eligibility: Credit For Courses Not Taken At NJIT - Registration at Another College.
- Must be in Good Academic Standing (have a term and overall GPA of 2.0 or higher).
- Make sure you will meet the Residency Requirement (a minimum of 33 credits of upper division courses [300-level or higher] must be completed at NJIT).
- Review the Repeat Policy (courses taken elsewhere count towards the max of 4 attempts).
